On Friday, August 4, an enthusiastic crowd enjoyed accomplished author and public speaker, Liz Coursen’s presentation on the development of citrus labels as a marketing tool. Her comprehensive visual presentation compared the industry in Florida and California. According to Coursen, “One of the untold stories about citrus labels is the cutthroat competition that existed not only among the Florida-based growers, but, on a larger scale, between Florida and California to win the hearts, minds, and wallets of the buying population in the Northeast.” Along with the citrus labels, she incorporated vintage postcards that promoted the industry in both states, pointing out the similarities and the differences. Liz is a dynamic and entertaining speaker who had a real connection with the audience. A delightful reception with socializing and hors d’oeuvres started off the evening.
